Hello and Welcome

Hello everyone!
I’m Rachel Siska. Welcome to my blog. I’m nearing the end of my IUPUI MLIS journey and cannot believe it has gone by so quickly. For more than four years I have been working the circulation desk at the IUN campus’ library. It was working there that I started to realize I wouldn’t mind working in libraries as a career. Yet, I first became interested in libraries because of my love for books.
I have absolutely loved reading since I was young. I read the American Girl books, many of the Magic Tree House, and some Goosebumps. Now I enjoy several YA fantasy and science fiction series such as the Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, the Tiger’s Curse Series by Colleen Houck, the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyers, and the Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas. The series I am currently hooked on is the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. It’s the first series I have been going through by listening to the audiobooks.
I look forward to learning about Reader’s Advisory. The week we briefly discussed Reader’s Advisory in S501 has really stuck with me and I knew that if I could, I wanted to take this class. My favorite part of LIS is learning about more ways to serve patrons. I love helping patrons find what they need. Seeing them happy and satisfied makes me feel accomplished. Yet, I know there is still a lot I can learn. As I mentioned above I read YA...and that’s honestly about it. So, this class will really help me learn about Adult fiction.
I’m excited to expand my reading horizons and learn with all of you!
